Valparaiso, IN

Shoreland Metals, L.L.C. was established in 1997 to chemically remove tin (Sn) from Sn-coated copper and brass alloy scrap. The facility is located in an industrial complex in Valparaiso, Indiana (~60 miles east of Chicago). Veolia Environmental Services completed the acquisition of Shoreland Metals L.L.C. on June 28, 2002. Shoreland Metals has been legally renamed as Veolia Environmental Services, Metals Recycling Group.

Scrap tin-plated materials from a variety of manufacturing applications are mixed with acidic and/or caustic processing solutions in rotary mixers to chemically strip the tin from the base copper alloy. Finished products from the detinning process include base copper/copper alloy metal and a tin-containing complex called "tin shot."

The facility has no direct industrial discharge points from the facility. The only waste sent off-site is excess process waters. All other materials sent off-site are products.
